4.0.2.2 - Miscellaneous video appearances
Shimmy Disc Video Compilation
This is a compilation, probably released in 1988, with 1987/1988 material from GWAR ("Time for Death" and "GWAR Theme"). The tape also features the bands Bongwater, Dogbowl, Michael Cudahay, Shockabilly, King Missile, Spongehead, B.A.L.L., Galaxie 500, Velvet Monkies and When People Were Shorter. Total time is 90 minutes.
The 12 Commandments
A 12 song compilation (1995, Metal Blade Video) of Metal Blade artists, including GWAR's "Saddam A Go-Go" video.
Hard & Heavy Volume 2
Video magazine (1989, MPI Video) with an early feature on GWAR. "Hell-O!" version of GWAR theme is used as background music.
Hard & Heavy Shred Fest Tape Set 3
GWAR appeared on one of these videos.
Metalhead Volume 1
Another video magazine (1990, Good Times Video) with a feature on GWAR that has live excerpts from "Americanized" and an unmasked Mike Bishop with the memorable quote: "GWAR is God. And there is no escape from God!"
Metalhead Volume 4
GWAR does a rather stupid interview with Mom & Pop MetalHead (1991, BMG Video).
Metalhead Volume ?
GWAR appeared in another one of these videos with the "Feed Your Sister To GWAR" contest clip that re-appeared in the TVD compilation. Volume number uncertain.
Sounds Of The Underground Limited Edition
A limited edition 2CD/DVD package featuring, among other bands, GWAR's song Eighth Lock (also on Beyond Hell). The DVD also features the Eighth Lock video. The package is available exclusively at Hottopic.
4.1 - GWAR gigs
There used to be a huge list (well, at least an attempt of one) of every gig GWAR and X-Cops have ever played. It was still incomplete, and a rumor went around that Bob Gorman was extending it. Be that as it may, a location on the Web of any such venture would be most welcome, for it is momentarily unknown. Any forthcoming current gigs, however, can be found in the horse's mouth at www.gwar.net.
4.2 - GWAR and games
GWAR have appeared in the Beavis and Butthead video game (Super Nintendo, Sega Megadrive and PC CD ROM formats). The object of this game is to collect pieces of tickets to go to a GWAR show. On the last level, you walk on stage and see GWAR performing a video game version of "Jack the World". The artwork appears to have been done by Chuck Varga and the music in the game is by the Scumdogs themselves, too.
GWAR have also designed a level for ID Software's "Doom II", but it's only in the shareware version.
Although this sounds like a joke (and might indeed be), GWAR have also done a game for Microsoft. It's called "Hackman", and is a version of "Hangman" where limbs get chopped off if you can't guess the right letters of a word.
Early 1998 there was mention of a true GWAR game, to be programmed by Tranquil Lament Software. Some really interesting graphics artists and programmers were working on the project. Then, not much later, it got canned. But, in a way, the project still exists, or seems to, as an add-on for "Quake 2".
There is now a Role Playing Board Game entitled "Rumble in Antarctica", released by Demon Blade Games. Check it out (or even buy it) at www.gwar.net.
4.3 - GWAR comics
The GWAR artists have done a variety of comics. One category, the "Slave Pit Funnies", is described here. Some of the "Slave Pit Funnies" were produced even before GWAR existed, but they were probably used in the Funnies to gain extra coverage. Examples are "Tales from the Toolbox" and "When Heroes Roamed the Earth". Charles O'Donovan helped create the first color GWAR comic, as well as the process used to color the pages on the computer.
For the most current information on GWAR's comix, or to buy them, surf over to www.gwar.net.
This section is not yet complete, for the GWAR artists have also done several black/white comics (some of which later appeared in the "Funnies"). Specific info on these is appreciated!
When you subscribed to the GWAR Internet Mailing List (see chapter 5.2.2), you got "Mind Control Monthly" (electronic issues) sent to you with some (ir?)regularity. It is now doubtful that these newsletters still exist. Several years ago, however, there were paper issues of "MCM". These were produced by Hunter Jackson and you could subscribe to them for US$ 10 per year. Between 10 and 20 issues were released when release frequency got less and, then, Hunter stopped doing them.
